Why I’m finding inspiration in a Toy Shoppe:

2 03 2009

We’ve been working on various things for the past couple of months: adornment for us and the wedding party, registering, paper goods, decorations.  Lots of ideas to choose from, and its very exciting.  But through out it all, is a sense of trying to tie it all together.  In theatre, unity of design is a good thing, so Metz and I both have a natural instinct to making sure everyone looks together together – color palette, texture, shape etc.

But really what I’ve been wondering about is the theme.  We are starting things off with a performance as ceremony.  We ‘ve been looking for ways to incorporate dinosaurs and ninjas into the whole deal.  I’m tearing out pages upon pages from magazines about hair, make-up and jewelry, which is very foreign to me.  So what’s this all about?  So far the whole day is coming out of a place that’s so organic (we never declared we wanted dinosaurs and ninjas as a focal point, but the flip book was such a hit that we’d like to run with it — possibly even with the ceremony — just a little bit longer) that we’re just following where the brain storms take us.  In short, we’re being playful.  Its that same sense of creativity and what-if-ness that drew me to Andrew/Metz in the first place.  And that is why when I hear that one of his cousins is in fact looking for a dinosaur suit to wear for our wedding, I say “Go for it!”  Indeed, dear readers, we have even recruited one of our friends to play “ninja” for a day.

XOXO
